Service is Unavailable in Defiance

Typically this error is caused when the game servers are unavailable due to maintenance. However, this issue can also be caused by various other reasons. If you are on PC, please try the following troubleshooting steps should you encounter this issue:

Note: If you're on playing on a console and receiving this error, it's likely due to servers being down for maintenance. You can check the status of the servers on our forums here

Solution 1 - Verifying your region:
  1. Open your Defiance game client
  2. Select 'Settings'
  3. Make sure to have the proper region selected from the drop down menu
  4. Try logging into the game client and if this hasn't resolved your issue, please continue with the next set of troubleshooting steps
Solution 2 - Removing Patcher.log
  1. Open 'My Computer' and navigate to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Local\Defiance
  2. Select the file called 'Patcher.log'
    • Make sure you have selected 'Patcher.log', as Patcher.exe is the Patcher executable and does not need to removed
  3. Right-click and select 'Delete'
  4. Try logging into the game client as this should resolve the issue
Solution 3 - Re-Download Defiance Client
  1. Go to the Trion Worlds website and select Sign In.
  2. Click on the 'Manage Games' page.
  3. Select Defiance from the drop down menu.
  4. You might see the EULA or Terms of Service agreements here if you have yet to accept it.
  5. Then select the option to download your Defiance game client.
  6. Once the install is finished and client updated, please try to log back in and patch Defiance.
Solution 4 - Defiance Client can't locate temp folder
  1. Start then right click on 'Computer'.
  2. Select 'Properties'.
  3. Click on 'Advanced System Settings' on the left side of the window that pops up.
  4. Click on the 'Advanced' tab of the 'System Properties' window that pops up.
  5. Click on the 'Environment Variables' button.
  6. Under the 'User variables for' section change the TEMP and TMP variables to:
    • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
  7. If the variables don't exist then add them:
    • Variable Name : TEMP
    • Variable Value: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
    • Variable Name : TMP
    • Variable Value: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
  8. Click Ok to accept the changes.
  9. Reboot windows.
  10. Try again.
Solution 5 - Defiance Ports for your Router and Router Firmware (For PC as well as Console Players)
You will need to make sure that your router has been properly configured for Defiance. The two things you will want to do to ensure this is to make sure that the proper ports for playing Defiance have been opened for both incoming and outgoing network traffic, and also make sure that your router's firmware has been updated to the most recent version.

  1. Review your router's documentation to find instructions on how to open ports on your model of router.
  2. Open these TCP ports: 80, 443, 50000, 6540.
  3. Open UDP port: 40000-45000
  4. Once your ports are set up for Defiance, you’ll want to get the most recent Firmware updates from the manufacturer's website.
  5. You will need to follow the instructions in your router's documentation or on the manufacturer's support site to update the firmware.
